Top Team Morning Fun!

On the morning of the of 30th October, the Kaupeka Hub was treated to a fabulous surprise. We were fortunate enough to be visited by Top Team™, a fun-inducing program run by Sport Canterbury that is done in schools in NZ. The activities are run by helpers, while you are put into groups to take on other groups in tasks that can be anywhere from filling up a bucket while taking it through an obstacle course, to using your bodies as gears for a human treadmill. It was blatantly very exciting and my group managed to come out third! The challenges were great for team-building and cooperation, and I'd really like to do it again soon.

Have you ever participated in team-building challenges? If so, what were they and when did you do them? Leave a comment below!

Reflection on Personal Karakia

Welcome back to my blog! After Term 3's conclusion, I'm sure Term 4 will be a very interesting term! Starting off our RE learning is a focus on karakia, which is the Māori word for 'prayer'. Here are a few statements I would like to share with you.

My favourite time and place to pray is by myself in a peaceful room alone with just my thoughts and prayers. Sometimes I pray for mine and others' safety and protection, as this makes me feel as I am looking out for someone else. When I pray I imagine Te Atua (God) as an old, wise man, with a face so bright it is impossible to look into it. He sits in his big throne talking to the people of heaven and granting the people on Earth his blessings. My favourite karakia is probably the Our Father - because of its tapu and history through the bible. Prayer in my whanau is uncommon, but not unknown. We always give thanks for our dinner, and try to go to church at least once a month.

What kind of Karakia do you participate in or have participated in? Leave an answer below!

Community PBL

Throughout Term 3, aside from our Political learning, we have also been learning about the community. We we put into groups of about four to five and given a random section of the community to work on. My group got given 'high schools in our area', and here are the reflection questions I have been given:

What is the most important thing you learnt during this project and why?
I have learnt that collaborating with people you don't know can be challenging, but is also very useful for getting to know people, especially ones that you'll get to work with during your time at school.

What do you wish you had spent more time on or done
differently?
I wish we had spent more time other than the time we were give to work on our Community PBL, we would've possibly had a lot better ideas with a more peaceful and relaxed environment.

What part of the project did you do your best work on and why?
Gathering data, because we thought that this would be the most important part of our investigation.

What was the most enjoyable part of this project and why?
Getting to know other people, because they're people that you could be possibly working with in the future.

What was the least enjoyable part of this project and why?
Not being able to pick our groups! Although it was beneficial, I would've had at least one friend/person I can easily talk to per group.

How could we change this project to make it better for next time?

I reckon you could let us have a bit more choice within our groups - choosing members and focuses would be better.
